After a two month break we are back to sailing and racing. We all had time to get some rest after a long and hard summer racing schedule. We made the necessary repairs and improvements to the boat and we got ready again to sail to the highest level.
The race took place on a windy Saturday morning. Sept. 3rd, 2016. It was an offshore race from Faliro to Kasidi, a small islet off the coast of Vouliagmeni.
The wind was coming from N-NW, and ranging from 17 to even 26kts. That meant that we only had to hoist the S2.5 spinnaker before the start and sail to our destination without even gybing.
Once we reached the turning point, we set up the J3 and sailed back to the finish line.
The waves and the sudden wind changes made it quite tricky, but we managed just fine. 2NM before the finish line, the wind dropped to 15kts, allowing us to change our jib to J2, to sail even faster.
In the end, we found ourselves winning the race with almost 2 minutes to spare to the 2nd boat.
It was a good start after such a long break and an opportunity to get in the racing mode, ahead of the tough races to come until the end of the season.
