“4TH H.O.R.C. CUP 2013” – TIME FOR TEAMWORK !
Offshore racing is all about teamwork but in windward-leeward courses is where teams need to prove that they are worth their salt. Over the weekend of May 18-19, 2013 up to three races were scheduled in a back and forth course for the 4th H.O.R.C. CUP. For the most part the weather was from the south with the wind no more than 12 knots as our instruments on MELX II peaked late Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday we pushed hard off the start and soon we approached the faster boats close to mark 1. Sailing around the mark we experienced some problem with our rudder and in spite of our strong efforts to make up for the lost time we finished in 3rd place. While we were waiting for the slower boats to arrive we managed to fix our rudder and in the second race we crossed the finish line together with the larger boats capturing 2nd place on corrected time with the 50ft OPTIMUM the winner of both races.
Sunday morning looked like a great day for racing as conditions were warm and sunny, the only thing missing was the breeze and the 3rd race was put on hold for hours, eventually taking start well into the afternoon. In both races of the day we finished 2nd with strong possibilities to win overall as our main competitor OPTIMUM wasn’t doing that well. However BOOKER’s crew excellent performance secured them the 1st place and the H.O.R.C. CUP, narrowly beating us by one point !
Next weekend, May 25 & 26, Voula N.C. is the organizer of an offshore race to Patroklos Island and back on Saturday, and a windward-leeward race on Sunday. We will be there !
Stay with us!
